Monday Musings

Ok, here are the Monday questions for today!!  I heard just yesterday of a couple of people reading but not commenting – please feel free to comment!  It’s been fun to kind of get to know people online and then have that connection when we see each other around (or not if you’re out of town!).  So, don’t be shy – speak up!

1)  Does your family take Sunday afternoon naps?

2)  Do you have a “traditional” meal on certain days of the week?  (pizza on Friday nights, waffles on Sat morning, etc)

Here are my answers:

1)  We DEFINITELY take Sunday afternoon naps.  From as early as I remember growing up, our house took Sunday afternoon naps.  You HAD to take a nap.  Even as a teenager, I had to be in my room quiet.  Sometimes I read or worked on homework, but there were many Sundays that I took a nap anyway.  I loved that feeling of Sunday afternoons with my family.  We’d come home, everyone would pull out whatever they wanted out of the fridge – mostly sandwich stuff but sometimes leftovers, and kind of make their own lunch.  We’d sit around, talk about what we learned at church that morning (laugh at my brother who said “Zaccheus” every Sunday for like four years), and read the newspaper.  It was just so comforting and relaxing.  Then, off to bed!  We still do this at our house.  Even when Jason and I were first married with no kids, we would come home, slip on the sweats, eat a simple lunch – sometimes in bed, read the paper – in bed, and if we were still awake, watch a Nascar race (for the boring repetition) or a football game until we fell asleep.  Oh, love it!  Now, we slip on sweats, do a simple lunch, talk with the kids about their lessons or what we learned, read a bit of the paper, and head to bed.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

2)  We have chocolate chip pancakes every Saturday morning unless something crazy is going on.  The kids and I make them – they sit on the counter and help pour things in and stir.  I put the pancakes on the griddle, and they sprinkle the chocolate chips on top.  They love it, and I do too!!!  :)   I sometimes try to make bacon or sausage and eggs breakfast on Friday mornings when Jason is off.

Feel free to comment!

    Good Monday morning!
I love hearing from people too. Isn’t it funny how many people read but don’t actually comment? :)

Bobby and I used to have a regular “Sunday Siesta” but it has kind of worn off. We do come home and rest but usually all together.

We make pancakes or cinnamon rolls on Saturday mornings. Munchkin always requests Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes with chocolate chips for eyes, nose and mouth.

Ok…here is my input for what it will be worth.

    1. No to the Sunday naps. If I sleep for 10 minutes I can’t fall asleep at night. I guess that’s where Alexa gets her lack of naps from as she stopped taking them every day at about 3. Also, we usually have a million things going on in a weekend so we are doing good to sit down to look at the paper together, let alone have quiet time.

    2. Also no to the traditional meal on a given day. Our only tradtional meals come on Thanksgiving and Christmas. I wish we did though, maybe I will work on that. There’s a resolution for me!!!

    Thought I’d comment! :)

1 – I’ll take a Sunday nap most of the time. But it just depends. Either way I’m usually just laying around anyways, and running the the Y to workout late afternoon.

2 – no traditional meal on a given day. There for a while, we got in a routine of having muffins on Saturday mornings, but that’s about it.

Yes to naps on Sundays! woo-hoo! LOVE them! And now Skeet looks forward to them, too! Like you, my family did it from when I was itty-bitty! Sometimes we would pile all five of us on my parents’ bed (double) with kids’ heads at one end; parents’ at the other. :)

Traditional meals on a given day…. getting back into the pizza’s on Friday nights (we did that for years and then got out of it – getting back on track now :) ), and always eat out after church on Sunday – then come home for our afternoon nap (with NO cleanup!)

    1) Usually try to. If Andrew’s off then, yes, we all usually try to snooze. If not, then I end up distracting myself and by the time I’m actually ready to snooze the boys are back up.
    2) We don’t have a certain meal on a certain day, but I do make the mexican crock-pot chicken every week and eat on it whenever.

1- Most definitely. We plan to keep this up for years to come…nap time is critical…especially on Sunday!
2-”Cinnamon Roll Saturday”- the girls don’t know what to do without it.

Hi Sarah – praying for those kidneys right now …. I wish you didn’t have to be concerned about that!

Sometimes we nap – sometimes not – depends on Addie – we can’t leave her up unattended :) . I love it when we do though – nothing better than a Sunday nap, especially with a new baby!!

Saturday used to be our “big” breakfast morning – bacon, eggs, waffles or french toast – but since Ryan was dx – I cook that almost every morning because he usually will eat it and I’ve been desperate to get those calories into him – thank goodness for Aunt Jemima frozen french toast on school mornings :) !! I’m hopeful we can get back to quicker breakfasts through the week very soon … but I think he and Addie are spoiled now :) .

We are serious about Sunday afternoon naps. We eat lunch out every Sunday, usually with my parents, and then come home, put on our Bengals sweats, and fall asleep to football. Now that the season’s almost over, I guess we’ll have to find something else to fall asleep to . . .

Our traditional meal is Tuesday dinner. We gather with Matt’s family and all go out to eat. We love having once a week to catch up with each other, especially as the kids get bigger.

Good questions — keep them coming!

We absolutely nap on Sundays. We always eat out after church, come home, let the boys play for a little and then all hit the sack. I LOVE it!

Our main tradition is the one above: Sunday lunch out. We also usually eat Mexican food out once a week. Sometimes it is that Sunday meal, or sometimes a week night meal. Our eldest is so picky, but he has a deep love of Mexican…so that is how it started. We can all go, all eat and those places are so fast there is no break down (usually) by either of the boys.

We don’t do Sunday naps mainly because our boys don’t take naps anymore but you and your commentors made it sound really good and I’d like to!
We do spaghetti at least one night out of the week. But we have to call it noodles and sauce instead of spaghetti or Aidan won’t eat it. :)

    1. Naps- the kids do and sometimes Chad. I like to read the paper, read a book or catch up on a project.

    2. Fridays is burger night. We started last summer when Chad said, “I could eat hanburgers every week!” I said, “OKay!” We made it our mission to make the best burger possible at home and have 2 versions we use, depending on how much work we want to do.

We also eat a “Big” meal on Saturday night. Meat, potatoes, a couple of sides and veggies and dessert. The other benefit to this is that we always have leftovers and I don’t cook on Sundays. And I can’t stand the Sunday crowds at the restuarants.
