March Madness
I like basketball. Okay. It’s one of many, many sports that I’d much rather be playing than watching. I can’t think of many that I’d rather watch than play – I guess college football although I love a good game of tackle OR touch! Last year (or year before?), I filled out a bracket and fared better than Jason choosing teams I knew nothing about that had cool names or pretty colors or were in states I would like to visit or something strange like that. But, I have been watching more this year – mainly following Vanderbilt. They are a fun team to watch this year with their great freshman Ogilvy. They are not doing too well against Arkansas at this exact moment though.
I grew up playing basketball with my huge uncles – all very tall and rough. I was a good 20+ years younger than them and a girl, but they didn’t give me much slack. When they’d let me into their games once in a while (so sweet of them), I’d literally have to fight and elbow for the ball. And, I loved it! That basketball didn’t prepare me well for the church league though. After a series of technicals, my basketball career was over – by my mother’s request and her wish to avoid the embarrassment of me shoving anyone who made me mad… I wasn’t mean spirited, I just learned to play rough. While my tomboy ways did not serve me well during basketball, they did really help me when soccer season came along. Someday I hope to finesse my skills and really play. Soccer is something else I REALLY want to play again but the closest women’s league meets in Nashville – I want to say the Cool Springs side or something. I’d have a lot of conditioning to do before that!
Speaking of basketball, my tall Katie Beth was making baskets at FBC today! She was doing granny shots, but she was making them! She is dying to play and will have to wait until next spring.
So, I’m enjoying watching this season’s NCAA games – especially the SEC tournament! It’s a pure pleasure to my husband that I’m not complaining when ESPN (or channel 30) gets turned on to watch some hoops.

this is random– but everytime I look at that header picture of your blog it SO makes me want a stinkin’ tan! you’re so dark there!
Sorry about Vanderbilt! Arkansas is tough…I think they will be an interesting match-up against UT.
I LOVE college basketball. I am from KY and it was the only sport I knew for a long time. March is my favorite month of the year…I seriously get giddy. My birthday usually begins the festivities followed (almost always coinciding with) the SEC tourney and selection Sunday. And then…the NCAA tournament!! Those first four days are magical. It is a wonderful bonus of being a SAHM…that I can watch the Thursday/Friday games. Previously, I would have to keep up with the games online from work. Of course, now that the family is growing in number and growing up it is a little more difficult to actually watch a game unless it falls during nap time. Anyway, I just LOVE it! I am happy that you and Jason are enjoying the games together.
I have heard you tell that story about your uncles and basketball before…I think it is great. I also love that KB has such a passion for playing. It is sweet.
Just incase you ever want to play soccer a little closer to home, Ben sometimes plays on Sunday afternoon’s at the soccer complex in White House. It is co-ed and your elbow throwing would probably come in handy:) Hope you guys are getting some sleep!
hey! well, the Vols just lost…sniff, sniff! can’t wait to see little Nolan! i’ll text you tomorrow about stopping by! missed you and thanks so much for your prayers! i loved all the pictures and have enjoyed reading up on you all! it is good to be back! love you!
Hey sweet friend! Did you get some random packages from your Texans? I sent everything a week or more ago…but you never know! Baby crying, gotta jet! love ya!
