It’s March 17th!!!

(MY DUE DATE!)  It seems like it’s been a year that we’ve had Nolan on the one hand.  On the other, I can’t believe he’ll be three weeks old tomorrow.  I said to Jason yesterday that this time when they are little bitty baby just goes way too fast!!  Of course I said that while he was cuddled up sleeping peacefully on my chest.  That was BEFORE he went from 10:00 last night to 6:30 this morning without sleeping unless one of us was sitting up holding him.  I realized why the Lord is good and does not make the infant stage last too long.  The cuteness is just to outweigh the lack of sleep I believe!  What precious, precious days these are though!  I adore him!

Isn’t it interesting the methods that God chooses?  Why does God make us as babies and then to grow up to adults?  Why not just have us created as adults like He did with Adam and Eve?  Why not come to Earth as an 8, 12, 16, or 25 year old?  (Of course, Jason’s answer to this was, “Well, it’d be pretty hard to carry a 12 year old in your belly.”  Yeah Jason, I know that!  LOL!)  But, what is the spiritual reason for that?  What is the cosmic plan?  Is there one?  (Other than if they all came as 12 or 16 year olds, the population of the Earth would be a lot smaller…)

Spiritually, it’s a good metaphor for our Christianity of course as the Bible talks about us being spiritual babies who crave milk early on and then must grow and mature to eat more of the word.

I have learned so many lessons as a mother, and I think God teaches women (and men too) so much through the struggle to get pregnant and the whole fertility process.  It’s what makes us women in a sense – that desire to nurture, love and care for babies.  But, in my life, I had to learn to be happy with the Lord first before I could have children.

But, I also have to think that God must adore those precious little babies himself.  I really do.  The innocence and sweetness of them has to be something that the Lord smiles upon.  There’s no verse to back that up other than the verses about God loving children so much (which there are many).

I also love the fact that we are made in God’s image – all of the aspects of us are made in the image of God.  From the wise old grandfatherly man to the successful and honest businesswoman with character.  All have aspects that reflect the Lord.  From the tired but loving mother to the laughter of children – aspects that reflect the Lord.  But oh, the sweetness and innocence and beauty of a baby – that baby reflects the character of the Lord as well.

And, I also have to believe that he gave them to us to simply enjoy.  Why have babies?  Well, why have the beauty of the mountains, flowers, oceans, and rivers?  Why give us a beautiful sunset or a soothing afternoon rain?  Why create large, majestic Redwoods or the tiniest of bugs?  All to reflect the Lord’s glory!  I believe the same with babies.  We sit and look at them with wonder and appreciation for the Lord.  Babies make us thankful to the Lord for such gracious, generous gifts and make us pause in awe at creation, life, and his amazing and untold abilities to create, love, and save mankind.

Thank you Lord for my babies!

Ahhhh – you’re so in love with Nolan (and I know KB & E, too). I can just hear it! I hope you hold on to that and keep seeing every new stage in that loving way! I still do – it’s hard at times to think of them as growing up, but you fall in love with them over and over again in each stage, seeing them in a new way. You look forward to what the future holds, but soak up the now time with them, knowing you will never again have that time with that particular child. God is good!
