Shoehorns and Pickle Relish
Yeah, we were just flipping through ESPN only to find bowling being broadcasted. On ESPN. The Esomething Sports Psomething Network. But, I know the S stands for sports. I don’t care what you say, bowling, poker, and pool are not SPORTS and do not belong on the ESportsPNetwork! But, that wasn’t a big deal. The real kicker was that they made the alleys outside! An outside bowling alley? The dorky little bowler guys were wearing cool sunglasses with their bowling shirts and strutting around. Making the bowling lane outside does not make it a sport, just like wearing a pair of sunglasses does not make you an athlete.
That’s like trying to put a shoehorn in the refrigerator and calling it pickle relish!
Ok, so I looked it up, and ESPN stands for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network. I guess they are getting by with showing bowling under the “entertainment” category for those with limited lives and lack of other entertainment?? But, make it what it is – don’t try to put bowling outside to try and make it seem sporty. Keep it in the smoky alleys where it belongs.
My mom was always leery of us going to the bowling alley – she said shady people hung out there. I guess she’s was right in some senses, but she kind of wigged out about it at times if it was just girls going without a parent. I wasn’t a huge bowling fan anyway – I do good for about a half a game and then go downhill usually. Mom also took bowling in college as a PE course. Funny. I guess Tennessee Tech considers bowling a sport as well.

Love your title!
Jim took bowling in college too. I agree with you its not a sport.
Hilarious. I always think the same thing when I see bowling on ESPN. Rick loves to bowl. I don’t. I don’t do so hot! I end up with gutter balls galore. Fun post to read. I laughed outloud as I read it to Rick. He chuckled too!
I agree with you on the bowling, pool and poker. Sometimes Brett and I will watch the bowling just to get a kick out of it. We watched teen bowlers one day, it was bad but what was funny was how serious they were. Brett said one of the teen girl bowlers had a look on her face as though she would’ “eat you.” I also don’t consider car racing a sport, it’s just car racing.
Nice job! Liked how you worked it in there and so quickly after the conversation.
